Policies

General Policies

Acceptable equipment:

  • Nonrestrictive harness (preferably a front clip), 6-10 foot leash, flat buckle collar, basket muzzle.

Unacceptable equipment

  • Martingale collar, choke chain, prong collar, slip leash, bark collar, e-collar (tone, vibrate and shock), restricting harnesses, cloth muzzles, halti/head halters or anything the dog finds aversive.

  • If you are currently using this equipment you must refrain from use while working with our team.

Use of Food

  • We use varying values of food treats as well as toys and praise for training. All training begins with the use of food.

  • To ensure your dog is adequately motivated to work, please only feed a half portion of the meal before we meet. The remainder can be used as reinforcement during our session if they are motivated to work for it.

  • The use of a treat pouch is strongly recommended for easy access to pea sized food rewards. This will help with your timing of the delivery of food rewards which is crucial to the dog’s ability to understand and learn.

Children in Sessions

  • It is recommended to have a primary handler for all sessions.  Children are encouraged to attend and participate in session(s) if old enough to follow the direction of the trainer. They will need to remain seated unless working with their dog(s).

  • Children, under the age of 6 years, should be supervised by an alternate caregiver so that the primary handler can remain focused.  Children under the age of 12 may not handle the leash during sessions, unless in a secure and confined area and approved by the trainer.  Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Health & Temperament

  • If your dog is sick, has a communicable disease or illness or is in heat (check your local jurisdiction for bylaws), they are not permitted to participate in sessions or walks. With your consent, we may inform your veterinarian of any health or severe behaviour concerns and work together to come up with a plan. We may also need written confirmation from your veterinarian that your dog can return to training or walks.

  • You must disclose if your dog has food allergies or is not spayed or neutered so that measures may be taken in an effort to reduce any associated risks.

  • All dogs must be up to date on necessary vaccines or has had a recent titre test. You assume all risks if you choose to not vaccinate.

Bite History

  • If your dog has a bite history, you must disclose this on the registration form. The dog may be required to wear a muzzle for all training. If your dog is not yet muzzle trained, it will be added into your training as part of the packages.

  • If we feel there is a risk to the consultant or the public, we reserve the right to suspend the services until reasonable arrangements have been made to ensure everyone’s safety. This may include a consultation with a veterinary behaviourist.

  • Magnolia Dog Training, Bianca Brown and its employees do not guarantee training results. Due to the nature of behaviour, both humans and dog and all outside factors involved, time frames and progress will vary. Owner compliance and consistency is necessary for training plans to be successful.  We may provide weekly lessons and occasional handouts on subject matter to support you, however you are responsible to take notes and practice as instructed.

  • Should we feel that your dog is displaying behaviours that require medication, we will work together with our veterinarian, Dr. Milner at Riverwood Veterinary Clinic.

Photos, Videos and Social Media

  • Quite frequently photos or videos are taken of your dog in training which may be posted to social media, like Facebook and Instagram.  Please let us know if you prefer that we do not share your dog’s photos.  If we have posted a photo in error, we will promptly remove it upon learning of the same.

Our COVID-19 Safety Plan

Basic Health Guidelines

Please cancel your private session or class spot if:

  • You’ve had symptoms of Covid-19 or any sickness in the last 10 days. Symptoms include fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, and new muscle aches or headache.

  • You’ve been directed by Public Health to self-isolate.

  • You have recently traveled outside the province of BC or you have had contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19.

  • If you or anyone in your home is ill, your private training session can be moved to online or we can postpone until there has been a negative Covid-19 test and symptoms have resolved

  • If I am not feeling well or have been in contact with anyone who is sick, I will contact you to reschedule or to do a virtual online session

Private Sessions

Here’s what I’ll be doing:

  • The number of in-person appointments will be limited during the day in order to minimize

  • points of contact.

  • In-person appointments will be spaced out to allow extra time for cleaning and sanitizing

  • before going to my next appointment

  • I’ll be sanitizing my equipment, myself and my car between all appointments.

  • If your dog is passed to and from our trainer for demo purposes, the trainer will also provide their own Biothane leash and sanitize between.

  • If you have traveled out of province/country or if you are feeling or have felt sick in the 14 days or have come in contact with someone testing positive prior to your session, please reschedule with us

  • Our 48-hour cancellation policy will be waived if it is due to illness or suspected illness

Private Walking/Walk & Train Policy

  • If your trainer/walker has signs of illness, they will be required to stay home, self-isolate and get a COVID test. If this causes an unanticipated change to your booking, we will contact you directly and ask for your understanding and cooperation in finding an alternative arrangement.

  • If you have traveled out of province/country or if you are feeling or have felt sick in the 14 days or have come in contact with someone testing positive prior to any scheduled walk, please cancel services

    • Our cancellation policy will be waived if it is due to illness or suspected illness

  • Walkers will wash hands when possible or use a minimum 60% alcohol sanitizer before, during and after each walk.

  • We use our own Biothane leash and disinfect them between walks and wash them at the end of each day

  • Treat pouches, keys and other high contact surfaces are wiped with disinfecting wipes between each client

    • When possible, pouches are switched out and sanitized at the end of each day

  • Low-contact or no-contact handoffs

    • If you are home, we can coordinate via text so you can harness your dog and put them in the closest enclosed area. You can bring your dog out on your own leash and we will switch over to ours. Please wear a mask for this transfer.

    • If you are not home, we ask that all walking gear be placed by the closest door so we can be in and out of your home as quickly and efficiently as possible.

We update this information based on WorkSafe BC’s protocols. If we have learned one thing during this pandemic, it is that things can change quickly!

I will update you (and this page) as requirements change.
In the event of a full lockdown all sessions will move online.
If you have any questions or concerns about safety at any point, please let me know.

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting a small local business during these difficult times.
